There are not many of us in the US that have not grown up with beef or special memories of family meals that did not involve beef. Here is the one that I thought of immediately: Mom's Beef Stew.
I remember that my sister, mom and I lived in this small apartment and my mom worked two jobs. Because of her work schedule and getting home after 5:00 each day, she made dinner late at night to reheat for the next days dinner. I vividly recall the scents of the beef stew simmering. It kept me up late some nights. I loved this meal and felt proud of how easily I ate the veggies in it.

My favorite beef memory when I was a child was Sunday night dinners. My mom would always get these great NY Strips from our local grocer and cook them on Sunday nights. She took such care in preparing the meat for cooking with salt, pepper and her favorite garlic juice. This was way before rubs. My dad was in charge of the fire and then the two would join forces to make these steaks melt in your mouth. My dad would always cut off the little end piece bring it into the house for some lucky person to try. It was like a treat. The moments around the bbq pit were just as savory as the meat.
For the longest time I could not cook a roast. Every time I would attempt it would come out chewing like an old boot. The helpful hints on how to cook a roast on the http://www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com/ website helped me overcome this paranoia of cooking anything other roasts. I can do steaks, burgers, and tenderloins but give me a roast and you could probably used it in your next pee wee football practice. I also got an All Clad slow cooker for Christmas that also helped me cook for a long time without the need for constant checking.
My roast woes I believe have ended and I am bravely experimenting with roasts cooking with red wines and even cognac. It is very tasty.
I hope I am able to win the giveaway so I can try more ways to cook beef.
Thanks,
Barbara Collins†

I have lots of memories with beef but I guess the one I remember the most is helping my mom make a roast when I was younger. I still like to cook it the same way (with carrots and parsnips).

I love beef because it's yummy and it brings the family together. You can eat outside in the nice months and just enjoy the country!!
I liked this fact from the site:
About 1/3 of beef's total saturated fat is stearic acid, which has been shown to have a neutral effect on blood cholesterol levels in humans.

My middle name should be 'cheeseburger'. There's nothing quite like a good beef taco, either. I've been a beef lover ever since I can remember. I'm also a cow lover. I milked cows almost before I could walk. Sat down under my grandpa's bull and nearly got killed when I was just crawling. I'm a Texas cowgirl at heart - with the weekly TexMex menus to prove it.
Lately I've been eating organic grass-fed beef mostly. That and Bison (but I much prefer the beef to the bison). Love me some cheeseburger!
This braised beef with barley and mushrooms sounds great... and a lot different from what we normally cook. ;)

I make 'welfare burgers' from the Hillbilly Housewife's site all the time. They are my kids' faves.

Without a doubt, Christmas! From as young as I can remember roast beef was always served for Christmas dinner. We had it frequently, so it wasn't a big deal....but on Christmas everyone would come and visit and it was a big meal with all the trimmings....and mom's gravy!
I kept up the tradition for many years after getting married and having Christmas at my house. Easy to cook and oh so good!! (and lots of roast beef sandwiches for days after!)
I heart beef because it's easy to cook, very filling, and full of essential nutrients!
On the http://www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com/ site the explanation of cuts is the best! It can be so confusing sometimes and this site tells you which need marinade, which should be roasted and which should be well done and slow cooked!

Great giveaway! When I was growing up, whenever my mom could get any kind of beef at the cafeteria kitchen in the school she worked in, that would be a holiday for us! Sometimes, also my grandpa got some for us on his WWII veteran ticket. You couldn't just get beef in the store in those days.

beef was expenxive and we had a large family growing up0 so when my mom made fajitas or chili or her famous roast it was a treat- it was always so tender and yummy
My favorite beef memory is all the daily special meals we enjoy using beef! Some of our favorites include lasagna, hamburgers, beef stroganoff, tacos, spaghetti, and I could go on and on!
From their web site, I especially like their recipe for Braised Beef with Mushrooms and Barley!

My mom wasn't the most creative cook, and with little money the only beef we ate was ground or london broil. While the broiled meat was rather tough to choke down, her meatloaf and chili and cheeseburger mac were all a-ma-zing. I loved that she always had something good waiting for me when I would visit from college!
Mmmm...I really like the sound of the Moroccan Beef and Sweet Potato Stew

My favorite memory is visiting my granddparents in Costa Rica. When we v isited they would literally go kill a cow and have a huge cookout for the whole family. (We have a huge family) And we would have beef ribs and rice and beans and salad and so many other things.

My favorite beef memory is not of family meals but of the first time I had prime rib in a restaurant. It was on a date and at a very nice place. I was hooked and still love prime rib better than other beef meal.
At the website, I learned that the grade "Prime" has the most marbling. It usually is sold to restaurants but you might find it in some specialty meat shots.

Whoa, so many comments by same people. I guess I'm not likely to win anything. But anyway, why I heart beef? My parents are Buddhists while I am Christian. being staunch, they don't allow beef at home. maybe that's why beef tastes better... cos distance makes the heart grow fonder. heheh.. I like the deep intense savoury-ness that comes from a beef dish. Chicken can't do that. Lamb has it's own distinct strong lovely flavour. But beef is different. It is chewy when cooked right, yet tender and juicy. I love shepherd's pie with minced beef. And medium well steak in mushroom gravy. Craving would be more like it.
And I like this link from the site you gave: http://www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com/marinadesrubs.aspx
I'm always on the lookout for ways to spruce up meat with all sorts of marinades and sauces. Thanks for the tip! :-)

When my husband and I married, we were both poor students. So our honeymoon was at a small cabin only about an hour away but in a gorgeous area surrounded by nothing but trees. We bought a couple of steaks a small mom and pop store in the small town and grilled them back at the cabin.
I don't know if it was the meat quality, the fact that we were usually too poor for steak, outdoor air, or the love high from being married the day before, but those were the BEST steaks we have EVER had.
And this info on beef quality grades was very enlightening!

One of my favorite memories is when my mom taught me how to make her delicious steak and peppers. Instead of just handing me her recipe, she took the time to show me, step by step, how it was done. Cooking together was special and made an ordinary event something I remembered forever.

Grilling hamburgers on the 4th of July is always a good memory. Nothing goes better with the celebration of America than a juicy thick hamburger grilled to perfection.
What I found at the website was a great chart on grilling and the differnt times to grill the different cuts of meat. A very handy tool.

I grew up a Vegetarian, so my first beef memory is eating a hamburger on a date, and being amazed at the flavors!
I think the Shopping for Beef section is the highlight for me, knowing the cuts is helpful when trying to figure out what to purchase. Also, at different stores it is easier to know the "right" name when talking to the butcher!
